
Ukraine, China to cooperate on developing inland waterways infrastructure
The relevant memorandum of understanding and cooperation between the governments of the two countries was signed on July 15. The signing ceremony was attended by Infrastructure Minister of Ukraine Vladyslav Kryklii, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Ukraine Fan Xianrong, acting Head of state-run company Ukrvodshliakh Ihor Sheverdin, and Executive Director of China Railway 14th Bureau Group (CRCC14) Li Junqiang.
In particular, the memorandum between Ukraine and China envisages the cooperation in the following areas: developing inland waterways; forming mutually beneficial logistics solutions for the trade between Ukraine and China, identification of technical barriers and other obstacles related to transportation between Ukraine and China; attracting investments, technologies and best practices for implementing infrastructure projects on inland waterways in Ukraine etc.
During the meeting, Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Kryklii also noted that the ministry expects the adoption of a law on inland waterways as soon as possible, which is supported by European partners and which can give a strong impetus to the reform of river transportation in Ukraine.
