Ukraine to launch first pilot hydrogen projects in 2022
“Relevant agencies are currently drafting the Hydrogen Strategy of Ukraine. We continue to work extensively to assess the feasibility of using our gas transmission system to transport hydrogen to EU countries. Ukraine will start its first pilot hydrogen projects next year,” Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said in an interview with CEENERGYNEWS, Ukrinform reports.
As noted, Ukraine has a huge potential in the production of a new type of energy, which convinces the European Union to recognize it as a priority partner in the hydrogen strategy for a climate-neutral Europe by 2050.
The minister also believes that renewable energy sources are becoming an increasingly important element of Ukraine's energy independence.
“We have an ambitious goal of decarbonising energy, industry and transport which complements our broader strategy of integration into the EU. A part of this strategy is the development of the use of green hydrogen," the foreign minister stressed.
As reported, according to the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving, Ukraine can produce an average of 5.5 billion cubic meters of green hydrogen per year.
In 2020, the European Union approved the hydrogen strategy for a climate-neutral Europe by 2050, identifying Ukraine as a priority partner due to its green hydrogen production potential and the availability of infrastructure linked with the EU.
