Ukraine retains tenth place in world pig iron production
According to Worldsteel, 1.09 billion tonnes of pig iron was produced in January-September 2021, which is 3.9% more than in the same period last year.
China remains the world's largest pig iron producer, steelmakers of which in January-September 2021 produced 671.07 million tonnes (up 1.3% from January-September 2020). The share of Chinese pig iron in the world's pig iron production totaled 61.5%.
The top five pig iron producing countries in January-September 2021 also included India (87.29 million tonnes; up 20.3%), Japan (52.87 million tonnes; up 15.7%), Russia (45.54 million tonnes; up 2.1%), and South Korea (34.91 million tonnes; up 4.4%).
Ukraine over the reporting period produced 16.15 million tonnes of pig iron, taking the tenth place among 38 world pig iron producers, which is 6.5% more than in January-September 2020.
In January-September 2021. world steel production amounted to 1.46 billion tonnes, which was 7.8% more than in January-September 2020.
The top five steel producing countries were China (805.89 million tonnes, up 2.0%), India (87.29 million tonnes; up 23.3%), Japan (72.13 million tonnes; up 17.9%), the United States (64.36 million tonnes, up 19.8%), and Russia (56.44 million tonnes; up 6.2%).
Ukraine was 14th among 64 world steel producers in January-September 2021 (16.29 million tonnes; up 6.3% from the same period last year).
As Ukrinform reported, Ukraine took the ninth place in the ranking of world's largest pig iron producers and eleventh place in the ranking of world's largest steel producers in 2020, according to the World Steel Association.
