Parliament adopts law on critical infrastructure
The corresponding law No. 5219 was supported by 268 MPs, the Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada reports.
"The law defines the legal and organizational principles of the creation and operation of critical infrastructure and is a component of Ukrainian legislation in the field of national security," the statement reads.
The law stipulates: to create an authorized body in the field of critical infrastructure protection – a central executive body with a special status, which ensures the formation and implementation of state policy in the field of critical infrastructure protection, performs functional management of the national critical infrastructure protection system, coordinates ministries and critical infrastructure operators on issues of ensuring the sustainability and protection of critical infrastructure.
It is also planned to carry out an independent external evaluation of the activities of the authorized body by conducting an annual external audit by the Accounting Chamber.
The law provides for parliamentary control over the protection of critical infrastructure. The Verkhovna Rada shall exercise control over the observance of the legislation in the implementation of measures to ensure the protection of critical infrastructure in accordance with the procedure established by the Constitution.
