Minister Marchenko: Ukraine actively negotiating international financial support
"Currently, the situation in foreign markets is unfavorable for Ukraine due to panic and information attacks. Investors are reluctant to buy our Eurobonds. In this regard, we must completely shift the focus to direct borrowings. We are currently actively negotiating with the IMF, the European Commission, and the USA. Canada provided support already. France and Germany also pledged assistance. We want to create a pool of funds that will allow us to cover all financial needs this year," Minister of Finance of Ukraine Serhiy Marchenko said on the air of Inter TV channel.
He noted that the launch of a new emergency program of macro-financial assistance in the amount of EUR 1.2 billion was the fastest decision taken by the European Commission recently.
"The European Parliament is expected to make a relevant decision on February 14. It will be emergency macro-financial assistance, almost unconditional. The first tranche is unconditional, totaling EUR 600 million. The next one will provide for the fulfillment of certain conditions so that Ukraine can fulfill them in the first half of the year and receive these funds. These issues are technical and will concern economy, energy and, perhaps, anti-corruption measures," the finance minister said.
As reported, the President's Office expects to receive at least $3 billion under macro-financial assistance programs from Western partners.
