President’s Office: Ukraine ready to undertake financial commitments for aircraft safety
"Ukraine is ready to undertake financial commitments on the safety of aircraft in the Ukrainian airspace. To ensure flight safety, the Government today decided to allocate money to the Ministry of Infrastructure from the state budget’s reserve fund," Deputy Head of the President’s Office Kyrylo Tymoshenko posted on Facebook on February 13.
According to Tymoshenko, guarantees will be provided to insurance companies, reinsurance companies, leasing companies, and air carriers. After the foreign policy situation returns to normal, the unused funds will be directed to the state budget.
As reported, the Government allocated UAH 16.6 billion to guarantee the steadiness of flights in Ukraine's airspace.
Earlier, the Ministry of Infrastructure prepared draft government decisions to address the situation caused by the announcement of the world's largest insurance companies that they would terminate the insurance of aircraft for flights in Ukraine's airspace.
On February 12, 2022, the world's largest insurance companies informed Ukrainian airlines that they were suspending insurance for aircraft for flights in Ukraine's airspace within 48 hours.
