The Government focuses on a number of key priority projects that will help accelerate the growth of national GDP.

First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko said this during the nationwide TV marathon dedicated to the Unity Day, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to the minister, the first such project is a program to bolster Ukrainian exports. The recently signed free trade agreement with Turkey will help improve export performance. The document is currently pending ratification by the Verkhovna Rada.

“Reducing energy dependence is also very important for us. Therefore, we will officially announce the start of a major program of thermal modernization by the end of the month. At least 5,000 buildings will be modernized and renovated this year. Our ambitious goal is 50,000 thermo-modernized buildings in the first years of the program implementation. The task is to reduce gas imports and channel the savings into more important projects for Ukrainians,” said the First Deputy Prime Minister.

Svyrydenko also announced the launch of the 5% Mortgage program for Ukrainians. Such a housing leasing program for certain categories already existed, but now it will get new conditions and additional funding. Police officers will become its first participants in mid-February.

“It is very important to launch an irrigation program in order to change approaches towards agriculture in the south of the country. The government will adopt a corresponding resolution on Wednesday. Odesa, Mykolayiv, and Kherson regions will start preparing design and estimate documentation for the construction and reconstruction of channels, which may begin in March-April,” Svyrydenko said.

The official also mentioned reduction in the public sector of the economy, development of capital market, development of entrepreneurship, continuation of the Affordable Loans 5-7-9% state program, and launch of a leasing program for mechanical engineering and shipbuilding among the priorities.

"Thanks to these measures, we expect to preserve economic stability and ensure the economic development of our state," Svyrydenko concluded.
