Italy seeking alternative to half of gas imported from Russia

Italian authorities are negotiating with Algeria and Libya on renewable energy generation, and with Tunisian leaders – on hydrogen fuel supplies.
This was reported by La 7 with reference to a statement by Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Mayo, Ukrinform reports.
"Italy has many partners in the world," he said.
Di Mayo said that he had recently made several business trips, including to Algeria and Qatar, to agree on expanding energy cooperation.
"This should reduce Italy's dependence on Russian gas," he said.
It should be recalled that Italy is considered to be one of the EU nations most dependent on Russian gas. As of the end of 2021, the share of Russia in Italian gas imports stood at 43%. In turn, the share of Russian gas in Italy's energy sector is 19%, which is significantly more than that even in Germany (12%).
