Ukraine calls for tougher Russia sanctions amid attempts to introduce rouble in temporarily occupied areas
This was stated on Twitter by Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko, Ukrinform reports.
“Faced with total resistance from the local population, Russia tries to introduce the Ruble in the temporarily seized parts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions in an attempt to establish an occupation regime. Sanctions pressure must be stepped up until Russia withdraws its troops,” Nikolenko tweeted on Tuesday, March 29.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, on Tuesday, the National Bank of Ukraine noted that Russia's restrictions on the hryvnia and the attempt to introduce the Russian rouble in territories temporarily beyond the Ukrainian government control or areas under the threat of seizure are in violation of international conventions.
On March 26, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said Russia was poised to continue preparatory measures for the introduction of Russian roubles instead of the hryvnia in the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson and Zaporizhia region.
