Commissioner Simson: EU, Ukraine have common green energy future
"Renewable energy countries can be our real partners. And in this regard, Ukraine is a potentially important partner in the field of renewable energy. I am convinced that we have a common future," EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson said at a high-level event on security and stability of Ukraine's energy sector, organized by the Energy Community in Vienna.
She stressed that the European Commission would continue to provide strong support to the Ukrainian energy sector. According to her, the focus of the aid is on the supply of specialized equipment to Ukraine to replace the one destroyed during the Russian invasion.
Simson also pointed out that a commercial flow of electricity between Ukraine and Poland had now become possible though being still an exception, so "it is important to move forward in this direction."
On March 16, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) started the trial synchronisation of the continental European power system with the power systems of Ukraine and Moldova.
