Russia suspended from International Gas Union
The relevant statement was made by Interfax, referring to the representatives of the World Gas Congress (WGC), an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
As a result, the Korea Gas Union, hosting the WGC 2022, cannot engage the further participation of Russian entities in the WGC 2022 for speaking, participation of delegations, or involvement in the exhibition or sponsorship.
Russia’s largest gas market players, Gazprom and Novatek, used to take part in the WGC many times. Their leaders, Alexey Miller and Leonid Mikhelson, were expected to act as speakers at the congress in South Korea.
According to the data from Gazprom, the company intended to spend RUB 137 million to build an exhibition stand in South Korea’s Daegu. Novatek was also planning to build its own exhibition stand.
The IGU includes 160 gas industry associations and corporations, representing more than 95% of the world gas market.
A reminder that, on February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, starting a war. Russian troops are shelling and destroying the key infrastructure facilities, launching missile and air strikes on Ukrainian cities and villages, torturing and murdering civilians.
