In January-June 2022, Energoatom National Nuclear Energy Generating Company of Ukraine generated over 34.3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, or 55.4% of the country’s total electricity output.

The relevant statement was made by the company’s press service, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“In the first half of 2022, Energoatom generated over 34.3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, or 55.4% of the country’s total electricity output. More than 32 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity was delivered. Hence, in the first half of 2022, Energoatom completed the electricity production plan at 100.4% and the electricity supply plan at 100.6%,” the report states.

Despite the extreme challenges caused by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the seizure of nuclear power and industrial facilities by Russian troops, Energoatom made every effort to ensure that Ukrainian consumers did not experience a shortage of electricity.

A reminder that, on March 4, 2022, Russian troops seized Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhzhia NPP. Russian invaders deployed military equipment and ammunition within the site of the plant.

Since August 5, 2022, the Russian military have been repeatedly shelling the area of Zaporizhzhia NPP. In particular, Russian projectiles damaged three radiation monitoring sensors around the spent fuel storage.
