Only full embargo on oil and gas can critically impact Russia’s willingness to conduct war – Svyrydenko

Only a full embargo on oil and gas, imposed by the European Union, can have a critical impact on Russia’s willingness to continue war.

The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister, Economy Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, an Ukrinform correspondent reports, referring to the Ukrainian Economy Ministry.

“The European Union’s eighth sanctions package contains many partial restrictions. We will fight to introduce them in full. Also, an important step was made to implement principal agreements regarding the introduction of a price cap on oil, which were reached during the G7 Summit on September 2, 2022. At the same time, we are waiting for further progress in this matter, which should eventually result in a significant reduction in Russia’s revenues and its capacity to continue an aggressive war. Meanwhile, Ukraine adheres to the previously announced stance that only a full embargo on oil and gas can critically impact Russia’s willingness to continue war,” Svyrydenko told.

According to the ministry, the eighth sanctions package contains, in particular, a ban on coal exports to Russia, including coking coal, which is used at Russian industrial enterprises, as well as certain electronic components used by Russia to manufacture weapons and technical goods for the aviation sector, etc.

The package also included the sanctioning of individuals and entities that had played a role in the organization of illegal ‘referenda’ in the occupied areas of Ukraine’s Donetsk region, Luhansk region, Kherson region and Zaporizhzhia region.
