Ukraine has capacity to import electricity - Galushchenko

Ukrinform
Ukraine has the capacity to import electricity in view of the shelling of its energy infrastructure by Russian troops.

Ukraine's Energy Minister German Galushchenko said this in an interview with the We - Ukraine channel, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Now we have opportunities to import electricity. We have not used this tool yet. We will monitor the situation. But if we need this, then we have opportunities for this," the minister said.

He recalled that on October 11, Ukraine suspended exports of electricity in order to stabilize its own energy system, which is suffering as a result of Russian aggression.

"Stopping exports is a forced thing. It was economically beneficial for us, because there was a big difference in price. The issue was also political. Because by consuming Ukrainian electricity, the EU countries saved on Russian gas and coal," Galushchenko said.

Since October 10, Russia has been carrying out massive strikes with missiles and kamikaze drones on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The strikes damaged more than 45 energy facilities. Ukraine's state power company Ukrenergo introduced power supply restrictions in the center and north of Ukraine.
