PM Shmyhal, IMF chief Georgieva discuss new cooperation program, donor platform
The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“The new cooperation program of Ukraine and the IMF, and the consolidated support of partners for our state were the main issues raised at a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Berlin. I thanked Ms. Georgieva for arranging the Ukraine mission, which had completed its work in Vienna. We are making every effort to pass through all interim stages and start a new cooperation program with the fund as soon as possible,” Shmyhal noted.
In the continuation of the dialogue with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, the parties also discussed the need to create an international donor platform. This refers to a mechanism of coordinating aid to Ukraine, determining the main areas of priority and long-term recovery, as well as sources of their financing.
“This will allow a quick and effective response to economic challenges. I was once again convinced of the IMF’s consistent and unequivocal support for Ukraine, opening up the new cooperation horizons to strengthen the country’s economy,” Shmyhal added.
A reminder that, during a working visit to Berlin on October 24, 2022, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal met with Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz, German Federal Minister of Finance Christian Lindner, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany Robert Habeck and Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany Svenja Schulze.
