Germany gives Ukraine EUR 56M for repair of energy infrastructure
According to Ukrinform, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this in a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, federal government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said.
On Tuesday, Chancellor Scholz called President Zelensky to exchange views on the political, military and humanitarian situation in Ukraine, the spokesman said.
Zelensky informed Scholz about the consequences of Russian airstrikes on civilian infrastructure, water and electricity supply. The chancellor condemned the ongoing shelling and assured Ukraine of further support.
So far, the federal government has provided EUR 56 million in short-term financial assistance to repair Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Germany is also providing more than 350 generators.
The chancellor reaffirmed Germany's continued support for Ukraine, including in the area of air defense and long-term reconstruction.
Both parties agreed to continue their close and constructive exchanges and remain in close contact.
