Russia causes over UAH 1.5T worth of damage to Ukraine's environment
The press service of the State Ecological Inspectorate of Ukraine said this in a post on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.
"Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 1,042 facts of events that occurred on the territory of Ukraine as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation and caused damage to the environment have been entered into the unified register of damages. In particular, specialists of the State Environmental Inspectorate took 854 soil samples and 1,138 water samples. As a result of control measures, the damage to the surrounding natural environment was calculated The total amount of damage caused to atmospheric air, land and water resources is more than UAH 1.5 trillion," said Dmytro Zaruba, the first deputy head of the State Ecological Inspectorate.
Olena Kryvoruchkina, deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management, said that over the ten months of Russian aggression, Ukraine has managed to secure the support of international partners, such as the OSCE, UN and UNEP.
"Together with them, we are developing methods that correspond to international principles and approaches. As a result, we will receive compensation for damages in international courts for damage to the environment, as a result of Russian aggression on Ukrainian territory," she said.
