A total of 659 vessels have left the Odesa region’s ports since the ‘grain initiative’ was launched. They exported Ukrainian-produced agricultural products to Asian, European and African countries.

The relevant statement was made by Director of the Department for Maritime Complex, Transport Infrastructure and Communications at Odesa Regional Military Administration Oleksandr Haiduk during a briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“On August 1, 2022, the ‘grain initiative’ was launched. As of today, a total of 659 vessels loaded with about 18 million tonnes of agricultural products have sailed from the Odesa region’s ports towards Asian, European and African countries,” Haiduk said.

In his words, the large scale renovation of the Danube region’s port infrastructure has started in the Odesa region. Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company is actively developing the Danube Grain Route project, which ensures a safe transportation of agricultural products from a river port directly to a large-capacity vessel.

Additionally, in June 2022, Nibulon LLC started the construction of a Danube grain terminal in the city of Reni. Now, it can handle 120-150 thousand tonnes of grain. Upon the completion of construction works, which has been scheduled for the first quarter of 2023, the European market will receive up to 300,000 tonnes of grain from this terminal per month.
