Ukraine announces its candidacy for IAEA Board of Governors
Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said this at an informal meeting of EU transport and energy ministers in Stockholm on February 27, the ministry’s press service wrote on Telegram.
Galushchenko announced that Ukraine is putting forward its candidacy for the IAEA Board of Governors for 2023-2025 and called on the meeting participants to join the discussion of this issue and support the Ukrainian application.
Galushchenko also emphasized that Ukraine continues its course of integration into the European energy markets, as envisaged, in particular, in the project of Ukraine’s Energy Strategy until 2050. The corresponding document prioritizes the development of nuclear generation and renewable energy sources, which will help decentralize the Ukrainian power system.
The Ukrainian energy minister thanked EU representatives for the 10th package of sanctions against Russia and emphasized the need not only to maintain pressure on the aggressor, but also to extend it to all spheres of the Russian energy sector, including the nuclear industry.
As reported, IAEA permanent missions started their work at all Ukrainian nuclear plants.
