Forty-three countries join Grain from Ukraine initiative
MFA Ukraine’s Ambassador on special assignments, coordinator of the Council of Exporters and Investors Olha Trofimtseva said this during a press conference at the Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.
"To date, 43 countries are participating in the Grain from Ukraine program. Thanks to the contributions from our partners, we were able to purchase food wheat primarily from our farmers and send it to those countries that need this grain the most," she said.
Trofimtseva noted that within the program’s framework, Ukraine supplies food to nations that are on the verge of starvation.
As reported, the Grain from Ukraine program was initiated by President Volodymyr Zelensky. It provides for the purchase of Ukrainian grain by partner countries and its delivery to states suffering from a humanitarian crisis. The program is being implemented in partnership with the World Food Program under the auspices of the United Nations.
In total, the partner nations provided almost $200 million to finance the project. Within its framework, some 110,000 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat have already been delivered to Ethiopia and Somalia, the countries among the most vulnerable ones in Africa.
