Ukraine, Slovakia extend increased firm capacity for gas imports
The relevant statement was made by Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine LLC (GTSOU), an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
In cooperation with Slovakia’s Eustream, GTSOU had been providing the firm gas import capacity of 42 million cubic meters per day since February 2022 instead of 27 million cubic meters that had been available since 2014. The step taken by Slovak colleagues contributes to the integration of gas markets, the development of business relations and the strengthening of the security of gas supplies in the region.
“In general, the currently available firm capacity for imports from EU countries to Ukraine amounts to 54 million cubic meters per day. It is also possible to import an extra 4 million cubic meters per day through Moldova and Romania from the southern direction via the Trans-Balkan route,” GTSOU noted.
In the near future, GTSOU and Eustream are planning to determine the short- and medium-term objectives and the ways of achieving them.
“At this stage of the transformation of the European energy system, reforming of the European gas market, diversification of supply sources and routes, it is necessary to use the potential of the existing gas infrastructure as much as possible. We are focusing on this task,” GTSOU CEO Dmytro Lyppa noted.
A reminder that, on March 16, 2023, the gas transmission system operators of Ukraine and Poland signed a memorandum of cooperation to improve pipeline interconnection between the two countries.
