Canada's aid to Ukraine exceeds $6B

Since early last year, the Canadian government has provided Ukraine with various assistance worth over CAD 8 billion (over US$6 billion).

This was announced by the Office of Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, after his meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Denys Shmyhal, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Since January 2022, Canada has committed more than $8 billion in funding for financial, military, humanitarian, development, and immigration assistance to Ukraine," the statement reads.

It is noted that this amount includes more than CAD 5 billion in financial aid, over CAD 1 billion in military support, CAD 352.5 million in humanitarian aid, CAD 127 million in development support, and more than CAD 102 million in security and stabilization assistance.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal of Ukraine was in Canada on Tuesday for a one-day visit. He has held talks with PM Justin Trudeau, Defense Minister Anita Anand, Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly, and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland. In addition, the head of the Ukrainian government talked with the leadership of the Ukrainian community in Canada.

It should be noted that, per capita, Canada's aid to Ukraine is one of the world’s largest.
