U.S. Secretary of Treasury: Washington plans to provide new grant aid to Ukraine through September
"We have current plans to provide additional aid [to Ukraine] through September – all with grants – as well as to provide support for energy security in early recovery," Yellen said during an international roundtable discussion for support to Ukraine, organized by the IMF and the World Bank on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
She also emphasized that supporting Ukraine is a collective effort.
"We welcome the efforts by our allies and partners to provide significant, predictable, and timely assistance and urge all of us to continue doing so," Yellen emphasized.
At the same time, she pointed to the importance of the "international coalition" of countries that have imposed powerful sanctions on Russia and continue to strengthen them. The sanctions, she said, are "restricting Russia's access to the technologies and equipment necessary to supply its military." In addition, thanks to the international embargo and price caps imposed on Russian oil and refined products, Russia is losing a key source of revenue, while the stability in the world oil market is maintained.
In this context, Yellen emphasized that the Russian state revenue from energy taxes is down over 40% since the imposition of the price cap compared to last year.
As reported, the Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund are taking place in Washington, D.C. this week, in which the heads of governments, central banks, and economy ministers of most world countries are participating. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal heads the Ukrainian delegation.
