PM Shmyhal: Ukraine launching comprehensive reform in energy sector

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal posted this on Facebook, summing up the week, Ukrinform reports.

"Comprehensive changes in the energy sector. We are launching one of ten priority reforms. Our goal is to restore the energy system, decentralize it, integrate with the EU, develop clean, green generation, increase Ukrainian natural gas production, energy efficiency, and increase oil production," he wrote.

He added that Ukrainian communities are enhancing interaction with partners. The International Summit of Cities and Regions was held in Kyiv, where the concept of a Regional Office for International Cooperation was presented. At the summit, a joint Declaration involving 30 countries, the Council of Europe, the EU and the European Committee of the Regions was signed. It confirms the readiness to take patronage of the war-affected regions. According to him, 11 agreements between Ukrainian regions, cities, communities and foreign partners were concluded at the summit.

In addition, the Government adopted a resolution to begin testing the eRestoration programme, which aims to provide funds for the repair of war-damaged housing. The program will be available in the Diia application starting May 10. The amount of compensation will be determined by a special commission. The funds can be used for construction materials or paying for the contractor's services.

As reported by Ukrinform, the energy agencies of Ukraine and the United States, together with the Net Zero World initiative, are preparing a cooperation program for the energy sector development.

According to a new joint assessment of the UN Development Program and the World Bank, the damage caused to the Ukrainian infrastructure of power, gas, and heating systems, as well as coal mining exceeds $10 billion.
