U.S. Ambassador visits Ukrainian ports of Reni, Izmail

U.S. Ambassador Bridget Brink has paid visits to the Danube ports in Reni and Izmail to Highlight U.S. Government support for grain exports amid Russia’s full-scale war.

That’s according to the Embassy’s press service, Ukrinform reports.

“As we support Ukraine’s brave defenders on the front line, we’re equally determined to help drive economic growth.  Great to travel to Izmail and Odesa region with Deputy Prime Minister  Oleksandr lKubrakov to discuss targeted USAID and private sector investments in strategic areas of Ukraine’s economy,” Brink tweeted.

She added that through USAID, the U.S. “is committed to public-private partnerships in Izmail and Odesa region to expand exports of agricultural products in support of Ukraine’s economy and to alleviate the global food security crisis exacerbated by Russia’s war.”

The Embassy’s press service told Ukrinform the visits came in support of U.S.-backed initiative to renovate and expand the ports of Reni and Izmail through co-investments between USAID, Kernel, and Nibulon.

“Through a series of private sector partnerships announced by USAID in March, the U.S. government will contribute $8 million through the USAID Agriculture Resilience Initiative-Ukraine (AGRI-Ukraine), along with $36 million in total from Kernel, Nibulon, and Grain Initiative. Kernel is co-investing with the U.S. government to upgrade the Port of Reni and Nibulon is co-investing with the U.S. government to expand the Port of Izmail,” diplomats said.

A further partnership with Grain Alliance will enable increased exports through the purchase of a transshipment storage facility, the press service noted.
