Japan to provide Ukraine with $5M in emergency aid after Kakhovka dam blast

The Japanese government has decided to provide $5 million in emergency aid to people in southern Ukraine affected by the breach of a dam at the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu announced the decision at a news conference on Tuesday.
The Japanese government plans to provide food, water and other hygiene- and health-related aid through international organizations, including the World Food Programme and the United Nations Children's Fund.
As Ukrinform reported, on the night of June 6, the Russian forces blew up the dam of the Kakhovka HPP, causing the flooding of areas in Kherson and Mykolaiv regions and, at the same time, the critical shallowing of the Kakhovka Reservoir.
