Minister Galushchenko meets with management of British energy regulator
The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Energy Ministry, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
In particular, the meeting was attended by Ofgem CEO Jonathan Brearley.
The parties discussed the areas of cooperation in the process of Ukraine’s integration into the EU natural gas and electricity markets, as well as the support of British partners in strengthening the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system.
Galushchenko briefed the management of Ofgem on the current situation in Ukraine’s energy sector and the measures being taken to stabilize the system after Russia’s terrorist attack at Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP).
The Ukrainian minister emphasized the prospects for strengthening cooperation in the natural gas sector. Ukraine offers partners to use its underground gas storage facilities, the reliability of which was confirmed by the gas storage facilities operator certified under the European standards.
Additionally, the parties discussed the restoration of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, namely power grids. The Ukrainian side expressed interest in the British experience of building and developing modern distribution systems in regions, especially the implementation of relevant projects within the de-occupied areas.
In the course of the meeting, special attention was given to the issue of nuclear safety and the impact of Russia’s terrorist attack at Kakhovka HPP on the safety of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), which had been seized by Russian troops. According to Galushchenko, the only response of the civilized world to the terrorist state of Russia must be the expulsion of Russian nuclear technologies from the global markets.
