A report published Tuesday by the United Nations Development Programme and the World Bank shows that Ukraine's energy system remains extremely vulnerable and continues to operate with a reduced and limited safety margin.

Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General said this to journalists, an Ukrinform correspondent in New York reports.

According to him, the losses of the Ukrainian energy system – not taking into account the Kakhovka HPP destruction – reached more than $10 billion.

According to the report prepared shortly before the Kakhovka dam was blown up, 42 out of 94 high-voltage transformers in Ukrainian government-controlled territories were damaged or destroyed by missile strikes and drone attacks.

More than half of these transformers were repeatedly shelled, which complicated made their repair.

At the same time, the report notes, the power generation capacity in Ukraine has decreased by almost 50% compared to the level before 2022. The situation is complicated by a significant reduction in maneuverable capacities, in particular by the loss of more than 67% of thermal generation capacities.

On June 16, the Ministry of Energy reported that generation in the Ukrainian energy system fully met the electricity needs of consumers, there were no imports or exports.
