Such data were made public by the Kyiv School of Economics.
"As of the end of May 2023, the sum of direct damages caused to Ukraine's housing stock as a result of the full-scale war is more than $54 billion. This is more than a third of the total direct damages to Ukraine's infrastructure and assets, according to data calculated by the KSE Institute team (an analytical division of the Kyiv School of Economics) within the framework of the ‘Russia will pay’ project,” the statement reads.
The total number of damaged housing stock objects as of June 2023 exceeds 163,000. The total area of damaged or destroyed objects is 87 million sqm or 8.6% of the total area of Ukraine’s housing stock.
According to researchers, the lion's share of losses — $46.6 billion — is caused by the destruction and damage of apartment blocks. There is a total of 18,600 such buildings: 13,200 — damaged, 5,400 — completely destroyed.
More than $7 billion in direct losses is caused by the destruction and damage of more than 144,000 private houses, including almost 59,000 destroyed.
The housing stock of Donetsk region (84,400 housing units), Kyiv region (22,700), Luhansk region (11,300), Kharkiv region (9,800), and Mykolaiv region (7,500) suffered the greatest destruction.
In Kyiv, 454 residential buildings have been destroyed and damaged during the full-scale invasion, with losses totaling $734 million.
As reported, about $60 billion was raised at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in London. These funds will be used to cover the state budget deficit and finance reconstruction projects.
