Five ports in Baltic states can be used to export Ukrainian grain
The relevant statement was made by Lithuanian Foreign Affairs Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis on Twitter, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“The Baltic States have five ports that could be used to safely export much more of Ukraine’s grain,” Landsbergis wrote.
In his words, the Baltic countries are officially proposing the European Commission to help them increase rail capacity on the Baltic route.
Today, in Brussels, Spokesperson for the European Commission Miriam Garcia Ferrer has confirmed that the Commission received a corresponding proposal from the Baltic states, and it is now being considered.
Additionally, today, proposals regarding the involvement of the Baltic ports in the transportation of Ukrainian grain for its further export to the global markets have been considered at the level of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council of the EU, including the possibility of granting subventions for the development of rail services between EU countries at the borders with Ukraine and the Baltic ports, as well as the redirection of many customs and border control procedures from checkpoints on the border between Ukraine and such countries to the Baltic ports with well-developed infrastructure in order to accelerate food export procedures.
