Shmyhal predicts "battle" in fall for U.S. financial support
Denys Shmyhal said this at a conference of Ukrainian ambassadors, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"It is very difficult with the Congress. I am convinced that in September-October there will be a whole battle to keep Ukraine's support. I mean finances, direct budget funding. Therefore, there is also a lot of work ahead," Shmyhal said.
He thanked Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova for her fruitful work with the Americans.
As for the International Monetary Fund, the Prime Minister added, there is now a large 4-year program that will help Ukraine stay on track. The financial support of the G7 countries (the United States, Japan, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Canada - ed.).
"But despite everything, these funds are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain in terms of fulfilling the requirements. Despite the war, our partners are demanding reforms from Ukraine and the full adoption of updated legislation. By the way, these are our obligations on the way to the EU and NATO. In addition, we have an obligation to the Ukrainian society to reform the state, reduce corruption, increase market instruments, and support business," Shmyhal reminded.
As reported earlier, since the beginning of the year, international partners have allocated more than $23 billion to Ukraine to finance the budget deficit. In the first six months of 2023, the state budget received UAH 1 trillion 302 billion in taxes, fees, and other payments. Expenditures for the same period amounted to UAH 1 trillion 784 billion.
