As of October 1, 2023, Ukraine had UAH 727.9 billion cash in circulation.

That’s according to the National Bank, Ukrinform reports.

This included more than 2.7 billion banknotes totaling UAH 721.3 billion, as well as 14.4 billion coins (without memorable and investment units) worth UAH 6.4 billion. This was up UAH 11.8 billion, or 1.6% up against January 1, 2023 (UAH 716.1 billion).

It is noted that in January-September 2023, the demand for cash decreased slightly compared to the same period last year.

At the same time, the dynamics of cash circulation reflects traditional seasonal trends and, despite its nominal volume increase, a slow but steady tendency toward cash share reduction in the structure of money supply is maintained.

The National Bank states that, in average, one inhabitant of Ukraine accounted for 65 banknotes and 175 coins (as of January 1, 2023, it was 71 and 169, respectively).

A UAH 500 banknote is circulated most frequently (27.9% of the total number), as well as a 10 kopiyka coin (28.2% of the total number of coins in circulation).

A UAH 50 banknote accounts for just 4.5% of the total number in circulation, while UAH 10 accounts for 3.3%, being gradually replaced by the corresponding coins. Among coins in circulation, the rarest is a UAH 10 coin (about 1.3% of the total number of coin).

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the amount of cash in circulation in Ukraine as of January 1, 2023 stood at UAH 716.1 billion, which was 14%, or UAH 88.5 billion up against January 1, 2022.
