Hungary again blocks allocation of military aid tranche to Ukraine

Ukrinform
EU foreign ministers have not reached an agreement on the eighth tranche of military aid worth EUR 500 million for Ukraine under the European Peace Facility (EPF) due to Hungary's blocking of the decision.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by The Guardian.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has said Hungary will block the disbursement of the next tranche of military aid to Ukraine under the European Peace Facility (EPF) until Kyiv provides “guarantees” that OTP bank or other Hungarian firms will not be blacklisted as “international sponsors of war”.

Szijjártó added that Hungary had faced “pressure”, but he said Budapest could not give its backing without such guarantees.

The EPF, created in 2021, is meant to finance actions that prevent conflicts, build peace and strengthen international security.

As reported by Ukrinform, EU countries are considering an alternative plan to provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance in its fight against Russia, if Hungary vetoes the current proposal for the payout of EUR 50 billion.
