USPA: 18M t of cargo exported via Ukrainian sea corridor
This was announced by Yuriy Lytvyn, the head of the state-owned enterprise "Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA)," Ukrinform reports citing the USPA press service on Facebook.
"The undoubted achievement of 2023 was the launch of the temporary sea corridor announced by the Ukrainian Navy, which allowed unblocking the ports of Great Odesa. On August 16, 2023, the first vessel sailed through the temporary corridor. By the end of 2023, 400 vessels exported 12.8 million tonnes of cargo," Lytvyn said.
He noted that the Danube ports also kept pace and transshipped 32 million tonnes, which exceeds the record figures of 2022. In particular, the cargo turnover of the port of Izmail more than doubled to 20.2 million tonnes (2022: 8.8 million tonnes). The port of Reni reached a cargo turnover of 10 million tonnes (2022: 6.8 million tonnes). Ust-Dunaisk - 1.7 million tonnes (2022: 785 thousand tonnes).
In 2023, Ukraine's ports handled about 62 million tonnes of cargo. Among the leaders in terms of cargo transshipment were grain - 45.5 million tonnes and liquid bulk - 6.3 million tonnes.
As reported by Ukrinform, on August 10, 2023, Ukraine announced new temporary routes for merchant ships sailing to/from Ukraine's Black Sea ports. These routes have been primarily used for the exit of civilian ships, which have been in the Ukrainian ports of Chornomorsk, Odesa, and Pivdennyi since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022.
