Switzerland's upper house rejects $5.5B in aid for Ukraine
This was reported by Reuters, according to Ukrinform.
As noted, the aid package also included 10.1 billion francs in additional funding for Switzerland's armed forces. 15 lawmakers supported the package, but 28 voted against it.
The package, which a separate parliamentary committee had backed in April, was conceived as an extraordinary contribution towards the security of Switzerland and "peace in Europe" because of the war being waged by Russia against Ukraine. “The aid for Ukraine was intended to support the reconstruction and repair of everyday infrastructure in the country,” the report says.
As Ukrinform reported, the Global Peace Summit will be held in Switzerland on June 15-16. As expected, heads of state and government from all continents will attend the event. The participating countries will develop a common negotiating position and submit it to Russia.
The Ukrainian peace Formula is a diplomatic mechanism offered by Ukraine to achieve a just end to the war unleashed by Russia.
