USAID AGRO to provide mineral fertilisers for farmers from frontline areas

The US government will provide free mineral fertilisers for field work in the 2024-2025 season for more than 3,300 Ukrainian agricultural producers from the frontline and de-occupied regions as part of the AGRI-Ukraine initiative.

This is reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.

"Through the USAID AGRO Programme, a total of 6,600 tonnes of fertiliser will be transferred to Ukrainian agricultural producers. Each agreed participant will be able to receive up to 2 tonnes of urea fertiliser," the statement said.

The agency noted that registration for the assistance will be held in the State Agrarian Register (SAR), in the section "Available Programmes". The name of the programme: "USAID AGRO Urea for grains and oilseeds in the 2024-25 season for the regions affected by military operations".

Applications will be accepted from 11 to 25 June 2024 or until the amount of assistance is exhausted.

The assistance will be available to agricultural producers in Dnipropetrovska, Donetska, Luhanska, Zaporizka, Sumska, Kharkivska, Khersonska, Chernihivska oblasts (excluding the temporarily occupied territories) who cultivate 5 to 500 ha of land, grow grains or oilseeds and are registered as legal entities or individual entrepreneurs.

"Approved applicants who cultivate 5 to 25 hectares of land (owned and leased) will receive 1 tonne of fertiliser each. Those who cultivate from 25 to 500 hectares will receive 2 tonnes each," the Ministry added.

As reported, in December 2023 - January 2024, the USAID AGRO Programme provided mineral fertilisers for the spring sowing season to more than 7,680 agricultural producers from all over Ukraine. In total, during 2023 and early 2024, USAID AGRI-Ukraine provided fertilizers to more than 14,000 Ukrainian agricultural producers through the USAID AGRI-Ukraine Initiative. This assistance provided resources for field work on an area of over 460,000 hectares.
