Parliament committee backs bill to complete construction of two reactors at Khmelnytskyi NPP
The respective decision was approved at a meeting of the committee on Monday, June 17, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
Fourteen MPs were present at the meeting, and 12 of them supported sending the bill to the parliament's session hall. Two lawmakers abstained.
"We understand that there are reactors in which the terms of operation will expire faster than in others. And if something is taken out of operation, then something else must be added to the [energy] network," said Andrii Herus, the chairman of the committee.
At the same time, he asked the management of Ukraine's Nuclear Energy Generating Company Energoatom to provide up-to-date calculations regarding the completion of nuclear reactors, since the company used the calculations made in 2018. Herus also stressed the importance of not buying Russian equipment to prevent speculation on the subject.
