EU Council bans European parties, organizations from receiving funding from Russia
According to Ukrinform, this is said in a press release on the content of a new package of EU restrictive measures against Russia, published on the website of the European Council.
“In view of the continued Russian attempts to interfere with the democratic processes in the EU and undermine its democratic foundations, including through influence campaigns and the promotion of disinformation, the Council decided that political parties and foundations, non-governmental organisations, including think tanks, or media service providers in the EU, will no longer be allowed to accept funding coming from the Russian state and its proxies,” the document says.
At the same time, it is noted that in line with the Charter of Fundamental Rights, the measures agreed today will not prevent media service providers and their staff from carrying out other activities in the EU, such as research and interviews.
As reported, since the beginning of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, the EU has been providing Ukraine with economic, political and financial assistance, pursuing a consistent policy of economic and individual sanctions against the aggressor country, and taking measures to avoid circumvention of restrictive measures by third countries and companies.
