As part of his working visit to the United States, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko met with United States Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm.

The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Energy Ministry on Facebook, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The key topics of the meeting were assistance from American partners in strengthening the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system amid Russian attacks, expanding power generating capacities, and improving the protection of energy objects,” the report states.

Galushchenko informed his counterpart that Russians continue attacking Ukraine’s civil and energy infrastructure, causing significant damage to power generating and distribution facilities. The Ukrainian official emphasized that, in order to protect the energy objects which are being restored at the moment, the country would need more air defense systems.

Additionally, Galushchenko briefed Granholm on Ukraine’s power equipment needs, namely gas turbines and gas piston plants, which would expand on-site generating capacities. The parties discussed expert and technical assistance from American partners with regard to expanding distributed generation capacities.

Separately, Galushchenko and Granholm spoke about cooperation in the field of nuclear energy and the current situation at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, remaining under Russian temporary occupation. Special attention was paid to ensuring the nuclear and radiation safety, as well as the development of nuclear energy facilities in Ukraine, namely the construction of the new power units at Khmelnytskyi NPP.

A reminder that earlier Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko and Director of the Energy Community Secretariat Artur Lorkowski discussed the procurement of distributed generation equipment through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
