Ukraine to receive EUR 100 M from EU for reconstruction of electricity transmission system

The European Union will provide EUR100 million to NPC Ukrenergo for the reconstruction of the electricity transmission system under the Ukraine Investment Facility (UIF) programme, which is part of the Ukraine Facility plan.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

It is noted that the relevant agreements were signed on 18 July by Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, Chairman of the Board of Ukrenergo, and Lorenz Gessner, Head of the KfW Representative Office in Ukraine, in the presence of Deputy Energy Minister of Ukraine Roman Andarak and Ulyana Rudnytska, Energy Project Coordinator at the EU Delegation to Ukraine. The funds will be used to support the project "Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of Ukraine's Electricity Transmission Infrastructure II".

"The project, in particular, provides for the reconstruction, repair, rehabilitation and replacement of destroyed and/or damaged parts of the Ukrainian electricity transmission infrastructure, equipment, construction of new substations and transmission lines using modern and energy-efficient technologies, as well as measures to physically protect elements of the electricity infrastructure," the statement said.

The Ministry of Energy also noted that the signed agreement is one of the first to be signed under the auspices of the UIF programme and is a significant step towards the reconstruction of the Ukrainian electricity transmission system.

As reported, Ukraine will receive EUR 200 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to support Naftogaz of Ukraine in creating strategic natural gas reserves and maintaining energy security.
