Ukraine open for consultations regarding transit of Lukoil oil – MFA

The relevant statement was made by Spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Ministry Heorhii Tykhyi at a briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to Tykhyi, Ukraine highly values cooperation with the European Union, Hungary, Slovakia and other EU Member States, and welcomes their contribution to the implementation of sanctions against Russia, deterrence against aggression, and regional cooperation.

“The provisions of the corresponding decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine concern only the commercial activities of Lukoil PJSC on the territory of Ukraine. The only thing I can add is that we confirm our readiness to join the consultations under the early warning mechanism in accordance with the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement if the European Commission makes such a decision to apply this annex,” the diplomat said.

A reminder that Slovakia and Hungary stated earlier that they had stopped receiving oil from their key supplier Lukoil after Ukraine imposed a ban on the transit of resources from the Russian energy company via its territory in June 2024.

The European Commission received a joint letter from the foreign ministers of Hungary and Slovakia with regard to Ukraine’s sanctions against Lukoil, and is currently studying the complaint.
