Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko and World Bank Country Director for Eastern Europe Bob Saum have signed a new financial agreement on this year’s first tranche from the United States, totaling USD 3.9 billion.

The relevant statement was made by the ministry’s press service, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“This is the first tranche of direct budget support from the United States in 2024. The planned amount of financial assistance from the United States for the current year is USD 7.8 billion,” the report states.

The above agreement was signed as part of the Public Expenditures for Administrative Capacity Endurance (PEACE in Ukraine) project, which had been a key financial instrument of the World Bank to provide aid to Ukraine since 2022.

Since the Russian full-scale invasion started, more than USD 25 billion has been attracted through the PEACE in Ukraine project. The newly signed agreement will raise this amount to about USD 30 billion, with most of the funding provided by the United States.

A reminder that, on July 23, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine endorsed a decision to attract a USD 3.9 billion grant from the United States for salaries and social support programs.
