Senator explains how Canada can help rebuild Ukraine

Canada's greatest contribution to rebuilding Ukraine may be about increasing military aid.

This opinion was expressed to an Ukrinform correspondent by Canadian Senator Stan Kutcher during the Rebuild Ukraine Business Conference in Toronto.

“The big problem at hand is to end this war quickly and ensure Ukraine’s victory. So that's essential. So I think Canada can actually do more with the way it provides military aid to Ukraine and in it can encourage our allies to step up to do more of that, because rebuilding Ukraine is really, really important, but the longer the war drags on the more rebuilding we have to do,” Kutcher said.

He also stressed the importance of seizing Russian assets and repurposing then to support Ukraine. “There's more to do on that. I think Canada can continue to provide leadership on  use of those funds to make them available for the further rebuilding of Ukraine,” the senator noted.

In addition, Canada and Ukraine should develop “strategic relationships between where Canada has tremendous strength, and where Ukraine has need and bring those two things together.” “So as a strategic plan for what can our Canadian businesses, the ones that are interested, but that have the technologies or the capabilities that Ukraine would like, how can we create better pathways for that?” Kutcher reflected.

As Ukrinform reported, this is the third such conference held in Canada. This year, hundreds of entrepreneurs from both countries, as well as representatives from the Canadian and Ukrainian governments and public organizations, attended the event.
