Ukraine needs to open agro-processing facilities - agrarian policy minister
Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Vitalii Koval said this in an interview with Ukrinform.
“I would like to urge all those involved in the cultivation of crops and trading to consider transitioning to a value-added economy model. Given that the average price of agricultural exports last year was USD 309 per tonne, and comparing this figure with those of Poland (USD 1,560) and Italy (USD 2,670), it is evident that for Ukraine, this means that we have a model of a poor raw material economy. It is essential that we process raw materials domestically in order to make our products have added value. Therefore, I urge everyone, including traders, to look for opportunities to establish processing facilities in Ukraine,” Koval emphasized.
He also noted that government support, including loans from various institutions, is currently available for this purpose.
It is crucial to recognize that the era of exporting low-cost products abroad is coming to an end, as logistics costs are rising and competition is growing. It is therefore essential that we make our product highly competitive. This should be done without delay," the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine said.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Polish authorities are taking all necessary steps to reach an agreement with local farmers so that they do not block the Polish-Ukrainian border again.
