Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko and IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi met during an extraordinary meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy, Ukrinform saw.

The parties discussed the need to deploy another IAEA mission to Ukraine’s electrical substations. The Agency's mission to monitor the situation at electrical substations that ensure the stable operation of nuclear power plants in Ukraine is an important step in guaranteeing safety of these generating facilities.

Separately, the parties discussed the incident involving the attack of a Russian drone on an IAEA official vehicle on December 10. Grossi expressed concern about actions that jeopardize the lives and health of IAEA mission members. At the same time, he stressed that this would not be a reason to curtail the work of the agency's missions in Ukraine.

As reported, during the Russian strike on the night of November 16 and the morning of November 17, damage was inflicted on four electrical substations, which the IAEA identified as critical for nuclear safety.

Prior to the latest attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, IAEA teams visited seven substations in September and October to assess damage caused by Russian attacks this August.
