PM Shmyhal meets Austrian FM to discuss economy, EU integration

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal held a productive meeting with Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Beate Meinl-Reisinger to discuss economic cooperation and Ukraine's path toward European integration.

According to Ukrinform, the Ukrainian Prime Minister reported this on Telegram.

“A productive meeting with the Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of Austria. We highly appreciate Austria's unwavering support for Ukraine from both the government and the people in all areas,” Shmyhal stated.

He recalled that "during her visit to Kyiv, Meinl-Reisinger announced that Austria would allocate €5 million for demining and €2 million within the framework of the Grain from Ukraine initiative."

Shmyhal expressed gratitude to Austria for supporting sanctions against Russia.

“We expect that the sanctions pressure on the aggressor will become tougher,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

“We are especially grateful for the support of our European aspirations. Today, we discussed this direction in detail as well as our next steps on the path to European integration. Thank you, Austria, for your willingness to assist,” Shmyhal added.

Shmyhal and Meinl-Reisinger also “touched upon the topic of economic cooperation.”

According to the head of the Ukrainian government, "Austria is one of the largest investors in Ukraine."

“We are looking forward to the visit of the Austrian business delegation to Kyiv to coordinate our future cooperation. According to the Minister, many Austrian companies are interested in partnership and investment in Ukraine. I invited them to participate in reconstruction projects as well,” Shmyhal informed.

In this context, Shmyhal mentioned the idea of “creating a special representative for Ukraine to better coordinate our cooperation in this area.”

Additionally, during the meeting, Shmyhal “emphasized the importance of confiscating frozen Russian assets, as this would become a significant resource for rebuilding our country.”

“I received assurances from Meinl-Reisinger that Austria will continue to support Ukraine. Thank you for standing by the Ukrainian people during these difficult times of Russia's full-scale aggression,” the Prime Minister concluded.

As reported by Ukrinform, Austria's new Foreign Minister, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, arrived in Ukraine on Friday, March 14.
