Luhansk region authorities warn about looming technological disaster in "LPR" areas
The press service of the Luhansk regional military-civilian administration reports.
"According to available information, on Sept. 2 following an accident at the coal mine "Pervomayskaya" in the town of Pervomaisk, water pumping complex stopped operating, flooding of the coal mine began. Water in the coalmine will flow to the closed coal mines after certain time," a statement said.
The regional administration notes, according to calculations made by the hydrogeologists, in June and July 2016 flooding is expected at the Stakhanov-Bryanka region, and at the closed coal mines of the Kirov group, and at controlled by Ukrainian government coal mines "Zolote", "Carbonit" and "Hirska" that belong to state-run Pervomayskvuhillya company. This may lead to man-made emergencies, as mine waters contaminate aquifers, wash away the fertile layers of soil, and push out coal mine methane gas to the surface.
