In Zaporizhzhia region, invaders terrorize people, seize land, force to pay ‘taxes’
"The aggressor pursues a policy of terror in the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia region. The occupiers subject local residents to filtration measures, prevent evacuation to safe regions of Ukraine, and loot agricultural enterprises," the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova posted on Telegram.
In particular, in the village of Chernihivka, the occupiers want to deprive people of their land plots. The local residents have to fill out a form by May 8, indicating how much land is owned and how much is rented. After a form is filled out, a land use license will be issued. Otherwise, the commandant will seize all the land that is not specified in the occupiers’ papers.
In Mykhailivka village, the occupiers impose their own temporary tax system for entrepreneurs. Those who want to continue working in the community must re-register under the rules of the invaders. The Russians say that they claim only a "military tax" and all new taxes will be paid by entrepreneurs only for the community needs.
The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights emphasizes that terror and ill-treatment of civilians in the occupied territories is a war crime under the Charter of the International Military Tribunal and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, and a violation of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.
