‘Bloodstained packages’: Ukraine diplomatic agencies continue to receive threats
The relevant statement was made by Spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Ministry Oleg Nikolenko on Facebook, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“After the terrorist attack in Spain, the embassies in Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia and Italy; the general consulates in Naples and Kraków; the consulate in Brno received bloodstained packages. The packages contained animal eyes. The packages themselves were soaked in a liquid of a distinctive color and smelled respectively. We are studying the meaning of this message,” Nikolenko wrote.
Additionally, the entrance to the ambassador’s residence in The Vatican was vandalized, and the Embassy of Ukraine in Kazakhstan received a bomb threat, which was not confirmed later.
“We have reason to believe that a well-planned campaign of causing terror and intimidating the embassies and consulates of Ukraine is taking place. Being unable to stop Ukraine on the diplomatic front, they are trying to intimidate us. But, I can immediately say that such attempts are useless. We will continue to work effectively for the victory of Ukraine,” Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Dmytro Kuleba stressed.
According to the ministry, Ukrainian diplomatic officials will continue to successfully work in order to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capability and provide Ukrainians with the power equipment needed to pass through the winter period.
“The Ukrainian side is cooperating with law enforcement officers from foreign countries to investigate all cases of threats, identify the persons involved and bring them to justice,” the ministry added.
At Kuleba’s instruction, all the embassies and consulates of Ukraine stepped up security measures.
The Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Ministry called on the governments of foreign countries to ensure that Ukraine’s diplomatic agencies are protected in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
