Six settlements remain flooded in right-bank Kherson region – governor

Six settlements remain flooded in the Kherson region after Russian occupiers blew up the dam of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant.

Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson regional military administration, reported this in the Telegram messaging app, according to Ukrinform.

"The average water level was 1.1 meters as of 21:00 [on June 17]. Six settlements are flooded on the right bank [of the  Dnipro River], namely Kherson, Bilozerka, Dniprovske, Novohradnieve, and Blahodativka. As many as 1,274 houses remain under water there," he wrote.

Prokudin also noted that explosives specialists had already examined almost 310 hectares of territory where water could carry explosives, with four explosive items discovered and neutralized there.

On Saturday, rescuers pumped out more than 24,000 tonnes of water from 82 residential buildings in the region.

On June 6, the Russian army blew up the Kakhovka HPP dam, causing a large-scale flood. A number of settlements in the Kherson region were flooded. Parts of the Mykolaiv region were also affected by flooding.

As of June 17, 16 people were killed, including 14 in the Kherson region and 2 in the Mykolaiv region. Some 31 people are considered missing.
